Christmas Eve

Although we do not know exactly when Jesus of Nazareth was born, we celebrate his birth on December 25th, and we also celebrate his coming throughout the season of Advent and on Christmas Eve. Today is Christmas Eve day. Tomorrow we will celebrate the greatest gift that has ever been given...when God Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, came to be born of the Virgin Mary, and to live among men so that men might know God and know their Savior, who is Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Sermon on the Mount -- in the Injil -- gospel of Matthew

Matthew 5 The Sermon on the Mount; The Beatitudes   1 ( A ) When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on ( B ) the [ a ] mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. 2 ( C ) He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying,     3 “ [ b ] ( D ) Blessed are the [ c ] poor in spirit, for ( E ) theirs is the kingdom of heaven.     4 “Blessed are ( F ) those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.     5 “Blessed are ( G ) the [ d ] gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.     6 “Blessed are ( H ) those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.     7 “Blessed are ( I ) the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.     8 “Blessed are ( J ) the pure in heart, for ( K ) they shall see God.     9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for ( L ) they shall be called sons of God.     10 “Blessed are those who have been ( M ) persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for ( N ) theirs is the kingdom of heaven.     11 “Blessed are you

Jesus and the Woman Caught in Adultery

John 8 The Adulterous Woman   1 But Jesus went to ( A ) the Mount of Olives. 2 Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and ( B ) He sat down and began to teach them. 3 The scribes and the Pharisees *brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court , 4 they *said to Him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now in the Law ( C ) Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?” 6 They were saying this, ( D ) testing Him, ( E ) so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground. 7 But when they persisted in asking Him, ( F ) He straightened up, and said to them, “ ( G ) He who is without sin among you, let him be the ( H ) first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older on

The Local Grocery Store Owner

When I lived in south Minneapolis a number of years ago, the nearest convenience store was owned by a Muslim man. He was generally quite friendly, but one day he was steamed. He started ranting about how the Americans had done so little for the Muslims in Bosnia. I was taken aback by the audacity of this man's outburst and said to him, "Well, from your point of view we might not have done enough, but how much assistance did they receive from their Muslim brothers and sisters throughout the world, and from the oil rich Muslim countries? America saved them, while their brothers and sisters stood on the sidelines and did nothing." It's probably no surprise that my friend did not like what I had to say. But I wondered, if he had so much hatred for America, why was he here, earning a decent living and being able to express himself freely? Curt

My Palestinian Tutor

One of the kindest people I ever met was a young Palestinian Muslim who worked in a coffee shop in St. Paul, MN. I asked him if I could hire him to be my tutor in Arabic, and he said he would be happy to do it but he would not accept payment -- because, he said, "We are friends." I know that in the Qur'an Muslims are told not to make friends with Christians or Jews, but this young man took a risk and greatly helped me, a Christian. My Arabic professor, at the Seminary, was a Muslim psychiatrist from Egypt. He was very good, too. The young man disappeared after September 11th. I hope he is well.

Romans 10:8-15 Central Christian Belief about Jesus

Believe in your heart and confess with your lips that Jesus Christ is Lord, and you will be saved. Because Muhammad denies this truth, he cannot be considered a prophet. Turn to Jesus and the Holy Spirit will lead you into the Truth and give you the peace in your heart that passes all understanding.   8  But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,”  that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim:  9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  10  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.  11  As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”   12  For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,  13  for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Nicene Creed -- another Christian Shahada

+Nicene Creed+ We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us men and our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary , and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, He is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through th

Gadhafi and the Nation of Islam

Gadhafi helped the Nation of Islam purchase a beautiful Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago, so they could turn it into their national headquarters. I wonder if the Nation of Islam will sponsor some kind of memorial service in the Chicago mosque/headquarters in honor of the fallen leader? Curt

Futility or Obedience?

Christ seeks to enlist peacemakers in His crusade against evil, but then He also tells his disciples that there will always be wars and rumors of wars. Obedience to the will of God is never an exercise in futility, even if our reason experiences defeat at every turn.

Proposal for the Establishment of an Organization Devoted to the Search for Peace and Understanding Among People Who Share Irreconcilable Differences

A Proposal by Curtis T. I believe that between Islam and Christianity there are certain irreconcilable differences, and these differences have to do with the basics, the fundamentals of each faith. I believe that Christians and Muslims have one God, because there is only one true God, but we worship different Gods. In other words, the Allah of Christians is not the Allah of Muslims. However, I also believe that God intends for us to find ways to live in peace and to cooperate with each other in caring for the poor, the weak and the disadvantaged among us. I understand, too, that the Quran declares that there can be no peace among us, in some of the later Surah's, but that in so called abrogated verses (who decides when a verse of Allah's speech is to be nullified?), Allah declares that Christians and Muslims ought to 'vie with one another in good works' and that he who abstains from violence is earning rewards for himself in paradise. Is it possible for a contemporar

The Gospel (Injil) simplified, John 3:16-18

Injil John 3:16-18   For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  17  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  18  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

Jesus and Honor Killings -- from the gospel according to John, New Testament

John 8 1   but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.     2   At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them.   3   The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group   4   and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.   5   In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women.   Now what do you say?”   6   They were using this question as a trap,   in order to have a basis for accusing him.     But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.   7   When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone   at her.”   8   Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.     9   At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there

John Esposito’s Deceptions on ‘Islamophobia’ by Hasan Mahmud

John Esposito’s Deceptions on ‘Islamophobia’ Posted By  Hasan Mahmud  On August 22, 2011  John Esposito In most cases, a patient won’t even realize, let alone resist, when a doctor betrays him. I am a Muslim. I believe that accepting our (Muslims’) share in creating “Islamophobia” in the West will help eliminate it. Dr. John Esposito’s  recent article  in the Huffington Post, “Islamophobia: A threat to American Values?” puts the entire blame on Western “media commentators, hard-line Christian Zionists and politicians.” He even neglects to mention the huge contribution Muslim societies have had on the issue. Esposito ignores that in our global village the West is regularly flooded by violence coming from Muslim societies; violence which is perpetrated in the name of Islam while citing Quranic verses and the Prophet’s examples. The list is long. Here are some examples: 1. A Sharia court stoned to death a gang-raped girl, who was a minor at the time. 2. A Sharia court flogged another

Three Islamic Scholars on the Subject of Child Brides

Three Islamic scholars' commentary related to 65:4 and the subject of sex with prepubescent children: Ibn Kathir writes regarding 65:4 , "The `Iddah is made up of cleanliness and the menstrual period." So he divorces her while it is clear that she is pregnant, or he does not due to having sex, or since he does not know if she is pregnant or not. This is why the scholars said that there are two types of divorce, one that conforms to the Sunnah and another innovated. The divorce that conforms to the Sunnah is one where the husband pronounces one divorce to his wife when she is not having her menses and without having had sexual intercourse with her after the menses ended. One could divorce his wife when it is clear that she is pregnant. As for the innovated divorce, it occurs when one divorces his wife when she is having her menses, or after the menses ends, has sexual intercourse with her and then divorces her, even though he does not know if she became pregnant or no

Christian Jihad -- Romans 12:9-21

9  Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good;  10  love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor.  11  Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, serve the Lord.  12  Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.  13 Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality.  14  Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.  15  Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.  16 Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; never be conceited.  17  Repay no one evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  18  If possible, so far as it depends upon you, live peaceably with all.  19  Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God; for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord."  20  No, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink; fo

Bible and Qur'an

A basic teaching of Islam is that the Christian scriptures have been corrupted by the Christian church, and so Christians ought to embrace the Qur'an as the final and authoritative revelation from Allah. It's interesting that Muslims, who pride themselves on their faith in the powers of reason, have been so misled by this doctrine about the corruption of Christian scriptures. This is something Muslims believe as an article of faith, and not as something that is reasonable or that can be proven. There are no pre-biblical Christian texts against which you can place the accepted texts and demonstrate that they have been corrupted. There has been a lot of hoopala about so called Christian 'gospels' that were never recognized as being divinely inspired that differ in many ways from the canonical scriptures, but those 'gospels' were written long after the biblical books and so nothing can be proven by them. The fact of the matter is that it is the biblical texts which

Peter Heals a Lame Beggar in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth

Acts 3:1-8  1 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. 2 Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. 4 Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.  6 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.

The Acceptable Age of Marriage and Sex in Islam and under Sharia Law

"But the most shocking sexual privilege Sharia grants to men is that they are allowed to seek sexual gratification with children. Urfi and mutaa marriages open the door to this kind of interpretation, as there is no legal age of marriage under Sharia and in Iran. For instance, a marriage may be lawfully consummated with a girl as young as nine. Furthermore, the revered Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, The Supreme Leader of Iran, the Shia Grand Ayatollah between 1979 and 1989 (in large part responsible for the recent spread of radicalism across the Muslim world), said in an official statement: "A man can quench his sexual lusts with a child as young as a baby. However, he should not penetrate." (from Cruel and Usual Punishment, by Nonie Darwish, pgs. 56-67)

Prophecy regarding the coming Messiah -- fulfilled in Isa al Masih

Isaiah 42   1 Behold, my servant, whom I uphold; my chosen, in whom my soul delighteth: I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.   2 He will not cry, nor lift up his voice, nor cause it to be heard in the street.   3 A bruised reed will he not break, and a dimly burning wick will he not quench: he will bring forth justice in truth.   4 He will not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set justice in the earth; and the isles shall wait for his law.   5 Thus saith God Jehovah, he that created the heavens, and stretched them forth; he that spread abroad the earth and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:   6 I, Jehovah, have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thy hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;   7 to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, and them that sit in dark

Isa al Masih -- Jesus, Son of Mary and Son of God -- baptism

The Baptism of Jesus   13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”   15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.   16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” New International Version, ©2010 (NIV)
